Important information for brazilian descendant

  1. Once you obtain the certificates of your ancestor that allow you the right of the citizenship, you will need the birth, marriage and death certificates of your ancient relatives in order to be given the right citizenship.
  2. Before, there was no separation between the Brazilian Government and the Church, so that Catholic Church was responsible of birth, marriage and death certificates.
  3. If you do not find the all the documents in the notary’s office, try researching in:

    3.1 - San Pablo’s Curia Metropolitana

    3.2 - If you do not know which Comune your Italian ancestor was from, other useful place to look for is the Immigrant Board, where immigrant stayed for one or two days until they where registered. The found here is very accurate.

  4. The National Archive of Rio de Janeiro is another very useful source as it contains data of the immigrants that arrived at the Brazilian harbors.
  5. If the immigrant lived in Brazil during the Second World War, but has a new registration, their documentation can be found by DOPS, (Formally a part of San Pablo government, now a federal institution).
  6. The research work can tale time, the time does depend on the determination, however we will not stop working till the job is done. Any information you can provide us with is important as it will assist us, for example any old family photos would give us an idea of time scale, location and professions, dialects would give us an idea of the family origin.
